Recurrent charges appearing for the first time are a contribution of $2,000 towards the maintenance of the Peak and D'Aguilar Signal Stations by the Naval Authorities which was sanctioned in 1905, $996 for the printing and distribution of the Meteorological Register and $4,299 for the evening Continuation Classes, the establishment of which was approved in Your Lordship's telegram of 5th and despatch No.127 of 8th July last.
New items appearing under Public Works recurrent are $12,500 for typhoon and rain-storm damages, a figure based on the average expenditure in recent years for which it has been customary to make supplementary provision, and $1,000 for the maintenance of the new water supply at Lai Chi Kok from which a considerable revenue is now derived. Other increases under this head are required for the maintenance of new buildings, roads and waterworks.

Under the division "Buildings" of the Public Works Extraordinary Estimates the original estimate for the New Post Office has been further increased from $272,000 to $930,000 by the addition of a clock-tower which was approved in Mr. Lyttelton's despatch
